Look on The Bright Side With Better Nutrition Magazine
Summer is officially here and Better Nutrition Magazine is giving their readers some great advice for staying sun savvy. Hint: It includes wearing your SUMMERSKIN!
Read below for a few of our favorite pieces of wisdom from their full article.
1. Cover up! This is the easiest way to save your skin from a sun burn, sun rash, dryness, etc. Just simply cover your body with clothing that has an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 50+.
Why sun protective clothing?
"A recent study analyzed factors in clothing fabrics—including fiber content, weave, color, and finishing processes—that either contributed to or detracted from blocking UV radiation. An ordinary white t-shirt, for example, has an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of only around 7. But according to the study, clothing needs a minimum of 40 or 50 UPF to provide protective effects. So it’s very important to consider all factors when packing for the beach, and look for clothing that’s specifically made to provide sun protection, such as Summerskin’s Your Perfect Chambray Shirt Dress UPF 50+." - Michele Burklund, ND
2. Use non-toxic sunscreens. SPF can be your best friend in the summer, just make sure to look for products free of harmful ingredients such as parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, and artificial dyes and fragrances. See Better Nutrition Magazine's SPF suggestions here or shop our favorites.
3. How to sooth a sunburn. Did you know that plants can actually help you heal from a sun burn? I'm not just talking about aloe vera. Others include: plantain leaves and cucumbers. See the full list of these amazing plants.
